ACTIVITY EARTH HOUSE

Rammed Earth House
ISTANBUL, TURKEY

Activity Earth House is a permanent house that will be used temporarily. The design aims to avoid the non-functionality of the house when it is not used by landlords. The house is oriented to the south-east axis to benefit from sunlight with maximum level. Windows and openings on the roof are placed to get winter sunlight at a proper angle. Therefore, the roof is designed against environmental conditions such as strong winds, and rains that could damage rammed earth walls. Form of shelter roof, which is inspired by local housing units, is created to host various activities during different seasons of the year. The structure of the roof is made out of steel and straws are used to meet insulation requirements. While exterior walls, partition walls, and niched walls are constructed with rammed earth, the material of floor slabs and footing foundation is concrete. The living space of the house is a combination of modular systems. This system brings functionality to small spaces. The use of spaces could be modified with elements such as doors and curtains.
