Warsaw with long historical background is one of the most significant places in Europe.It involves plenty of historical buildings and squares from various architectural periods such as Renaissance and Gothic.Although most of buildings have been restored after the World War II, squares, which had been built as market square in early periods of city, still keep their original contexts.Old Town and New Town are two essential places where host to many visitors from around the world.Most of tourists follow Royal Route that includes attraction points such as Royal Castle, Lazienki Park&Museum,Old Town,Wilanow Palace etc. during their visits.It is proposed that New Town would be significant part of this route through new concert hall building.

Rhythm Concert Hall is aimed to be an iconic building that not only bears traces from the past but also involves elements for future by communicating with current and past generations. Dynamic history of Warsaw and music are principal entities that inspire concept development of project.Context of city and music resembles to each other in many ways.City has always a alive rhythm, that is shaped by events, since it had been founded.Similar to heartbeats of city,music has also a rhythm that consists of three main elements that are increase,decrease and pause. Therefore,both in city and music, rhythm is essential function that includes dynamism and stability.By based on this information,form of concert hall is concrete sign of city’s heartbeat rhythm.Form became important element in this project because it directly impacts heart rhythm of visitors by providing them excitement and peace through shapes and elements.While dynamism is prompted by stair and ramp,people could experience stability through rooftop park with too many plants.Another significant feature of green rooftop is that square is no more non-functional space when it is not used.Many traditional events such as “Christmas Fair” and “Spring Festivals” will be organized on the rooftop park.In this way,rooftop responds to requirements of both sustainable innovative park and traditional square.Large part of building is conceived under the ground and height of concert hall does not exceed 5 meter to keep interaction between existing houses around square.Music tunnel where building is disengaged from ground,maintain interaction between houses and creates a space for street musicians.Context of dynamism and stability continue at interior spaces.Curved ceiling that is also exterior stair is dynamic element of interior space whereas seating spaces symbolize stability.Reception-cafe and hall is designed as open-plan and plants become partition elements.Underground concert hall is accessed by elevator and stair.Underground units include rehearsal room and recording studio for musicians.Local materials have priority in this project.
materiality
Recycled steel is principal structural material for beams,columns and trusses while building is supported by structural glass panels.Traditional limestone is cladding material for exterior walls and pavement material on the ramp and rooftop walkway.To demonstrate context and image of stair, oxidated metal,that had been used on domes and roofs of churches in early times, is selected.Rusty metal,wood and epoxy becomes prominent in ground floor whereas all surfaces of concert hall will be cladded with recycled wood acoustic panels.Concert hall is oriented towards south direction to benefit from sunlight in efficient level.One third of rooftop is covered with plants and green realms while solar panels that generate energy from sunlight is placed on these green areas.Project includes rainwater collection system.Sustainable properties of project will be permanent,produce zero waste and inspire next projects.
